What Jonathan decided
Pur Aqua = winner ("tastes the best", cheapest); VOSS out first ("tastes like bad")
Aquafina
Dasani beat it by a hair ("just tasted better," he said), and in the five-way round Pur Aqua won as the best-tasting and cheapest while VOSS went out first for tasting bad. Aquafina went home quietly both times.
About Aquafina
Aquafina is PepsiCo's purified water brand, introduced in 1994 and the top-selling bottled water in the US by 2003. It comes from public municipal sources and is purified through a seven-step process PepsiCo calls Hydro-7, with no minerals added back.
Dasani
The big soda-water showdown went Dasani's way, though barely, with Jonathan saying it just tasted better than Aquafina. (The auto-captions hilariously rendered Dasani as "Sony.") Later rounds were less kind: Starkey and 1907 beat it, and the cheap Pur Aqua beat it too.
About Dasani
Dasani is Coca-Cola's purified-water brand, launched in the US in April 1999 and once America's number one national water brand. The source is municipal tap water purified by reverse osmosis, then enhanced with a proprietary mineral blend for taste. It also comes in flavored variants like lemon, strawberry, and grape, plus a sparkling line.
LaCroix
Pur Aqua won that matchup for tasting the best and being the cheapest, while VOSS went out first for tasting bad. In the later six-water showdown, Tru Alka won the whole thing as "just good and pure, no bad aftertaste." LaCroix was part of the pack both times.
About LaCroix
LaCroix is the sparkling water brand owned by National Beverage Corp., also the owner of Shasta and Faygo, launched in February 1980 by the G. Heileman Brewing Company of La Crosse, Wisconsin, as an "Anti-Perrier" for the Midwest. The name is pronounced "la-KROY" after the St. Croix River. A 2015 social-media push turned it into a national cult favorite, and it holds roughly 30% of US sparkling water sales. Every can lists two ingredients: carbonated water and natural flavor.
PurAqua (Aldi)
This was a fun one. Up against Aquafina, Dasani, VOSS, and La Croix, the cheap Aldi water won. He said it tasted the best, and it was the cheapest too. VOSS went out first for tasting bad.
About PurAqua (Aldi)
PurAqua is Aldi's private-label water brand, covering spring, purified, sparkling, and flavored waters. Budget is the whole point: a case of 24 spring water runs about four dollars.
VOSS Still
Yes, he drank his own urine on camera and VOSS won. Moving on. It took second behind Glacier Isle in a five-way, beat its own flavored siblings, then went out first to PurAqua, which he said tasted the best and was the cheapest.
About VOSS Still
Same Norwegian luxury brand as above: the Vatnstrom aquifer, the Calvin Klein-designed bottle, very low minerals, sold in over 50 countries.
