Jon Drinks Water #8995 The Top 10 Worst Waters
Jon Drinks Water · Episode #8995 · Water Reviews
"Jon Drinks Water #8995 The Top 10 Worst Waters" is a worst-waters retrospective video from Jon Drinks Water, episode #8995 of the series.
The Top 10 Worst Waters: a retrospective compilation of the worst waters Jonathan ever reviewed, ending with bleach water and urine through a LifeStraw. A retrospective, not a new tasting.
Featured waters
Aqua Culture Betta, Biliner Sparkling Mineral, Bleach, Canada Dry Diet Tonic, Crystal Lake Spring, Emergency Canned, Emergency Pouch, My Urine Through a LifeStraw, The Pure Water Jug, Vitamin Shoppe Iceland Spring.
What Jonathan decided
all disliked/worst: Crystal Lake "really awful water" tied for worst with pouch water; Emergency Canned "tastes like somebody took a small piece of metal grounded up into a fine powder"; bleach "tastes like ten times stronger"; urine "so salty... the pee just tastes like pee"; Betta water "does not taste that good... I almost threw up"
Aqua Culture Betta
He said it "does not taste that good" and that he "almost threw up." Arrowhead beat it easily, with the betta water "leaving a bad taste in my mouth" and him not even finishing it. This one earned its spot on the worst list.
About Aqua Culture Betta
This is not drinking water. Aqua Culture Betta is sold at Walmart as conditioned water for betta fish tanks. Jonathan reviewed it as a gag entry, and nothing suggests it was ever meant for humans to drink.
Biliner Sparkling Mineral
He put it on the worst list, and that is all the review it gets. Some waters make the highlight reel. This one made the other reel.
About Biliner Sparkling Mineral
This is the same Czech Biliner water, the spa and medicinal water historically called the "Vichy of Bohemia," very mineral-rich at around 5,000 ppm with sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and bicarbonate. Imported to the US since about 2012. Jonathan did not care for it.
Bleach
He said it "tastes like ten times stronger," which is exactly what you would expect. This was a joke entry, and it earned its spot on the worst list the hard way.
About Bleach
This is not a water brand and not a beverage. "Bleach" was one of Jonathan's gag entries in the bracket. Household bleach is toxic and must never be consumed. Please do not drink bleach.
Canada Dry Diet Tonic
Tonic water is a rough category for Jonathan. He called both Canada Dry tonics identical and very bitter, giving the diet version the win for being less bad and zero calorie. In the next round it was eliminated first on bitterness, and it eventually earned a spot among his worst waters of all time.
About Canada Dry Diet Tonic
Canada Dry is owned by Keurig Dr Pepper, with the flagship ginger ale dating back to the brand's founding in 1904 in Toronto, Canada. The diet tonic is carbonated water with quinine, citric acid, and sodium saccharin, zero calories and caffeine free, built as a classic gin and tonic mixer.
Crystal Lake Spring
Jonathan called this one "really awful water" and tied it for worst with the emergency pouch water. He actually chugged it just to finish it, which tells you everything about how that tasting went.
About Crystal Lake Spring
Crystal Lake is listed in USDA branded-food data as a Rite Aid private-label spring water, a budget water consistent with the cheap bottles Jonathan was reviewing in 2017. Beyond nutrition listings it has a thin footprint, so there is not much more to say about the brand.
Emergency Canned
The can beat the pouch on value, lasting 25 years longer and tasting a little better, and Jonathan called the can the winner. But he also called both of them pretty bad and the purchase a stupid use of money. Later, the canned water earned a spot among his worst waters ever for its metallic taste.
About Emergency Canned
This was a generic survival and emergency drinking water in a can, with no identifiable brand from the review. Canned emergency water is typically coast-guard-approved for lifeboats and kits, and the metallic taste is characteristic of the category.
Emergency Pouch
The pouch lost to the can, which had more water per dollar and lasted 25 years longer. Both were pretty bad in Jonathan's book, and the pouch later tied Crystal Lake for the worst water on his all-time list.
About Emergency Pouch
This was a generic survival and emergency drinking water in a pouch, with no identifiable brand from the review. Pouched emergency water is a standard disaster-preparedness product for lifeboat and earthquake kits, known for a bland or plasticky taste.
My Urine Through a LifeStraw
This one made the Top 10 Worst Waters list, and honestly it earned the spot. "So salty... the pee just tastes like pee." The LifeStraw did its best. The LifeStraw was not enough.
About My Urine Through a LifeStraw
Not a bottled water brand: this is one of my joke entries, presumably my own urine run through a LifeStraw filter. LifeStraw is a real product line (portable microfiltration tubes that remove bacteria and parasites), but it does not remove dissolved salts like those in urine. There is no commercial product by this name, and drinking urine does not hydrate.
The Pure Water Jug
Aqua 84 won clearly. The jug got a thumbs down for tasting "chemically" and "sketchy," and it earned a spot in his Top 10 Worst Waters. Not its week.
About The Pure Water Jug
There is no real brand here. It was a gallon jug bought in Philadelphia with an extremely vague label held on with mailing tape, in a 70s-style font, with a barcode that scanned to nothing. No identifiable company or source.
Vitamin Shoppe Iceland Spring
It landed in his Top 10 Worst Waters video, which says plenty. The record is unclear on this one about exactly what he said about it in that video.
About Vitamin Shoppe Iceland Spring
The Vitamin Shoppe's private-label Iceland Natural Spring Water is filtered naturally through basalt and lava over decades in Iceland, with a naturally high pH of 8.64 to 9.05. Customers rate it 4.8 out of 5 on the Vitamin Shoppe site, about a buck a bottle.
Notes on this record
- Drafting note from the verified draft records: Vitamin Shoppe Iceland Spring: its only appearance is #8995 Top 10 Worst Waters, and the surviving notes do not include its specific segment commentary.
