What Jonathan decided

Ethos = winner (round 3); Arrowhead eliminated first; both sparkling eliminated

Arrowhead

It beat the fish-tank water easily, because of course it did. Then Ethos won round three of the five-way and Arrowhead was the first one out. Highs and lows.

About Arrowhead

Arrowhead is a mountain spring water from the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California, named for the arrowhead-shaped rock formation on the mountainside and bottled since 1906. It is owned by BlueTriton Brands, and California regulators ordered the company in 2023 to stop drawing from many of its watershed sources over water rights.

Clear American (Walmart)

The flavored sparkling waters did not survive this bracket. Jonathan cut both sparkling entries, knocked out Arrowhead first, and handed the round to Ethos.

About Clear American (Walmart)

Clear American is Walmart's private-label flavored sparkling water line, sold as zero-calorie, zero-sugar sparkling beverages in many flavors. Unlike LaCroix or Spindrift, it is sweetened with aspartame and acesulfame potassium. It is a best-seller at Walmart with budget pricing.

Ethos

Ethos had a nice run. It crushed the Fever-Tree tonic, which Jonathan called the most bitter water he had ever had, then won a five-way round outright. The Fresh Market water finally ended the streak, but Ethos was liked even in defeat.

About Ethos

Ethos Water is the Starbucks social enterprise, founded in 2001 by Peter Thum with classmate Jonathan Greenblatt to fund clean-water programs, with Starbucks acquiring it in 2005 for $8 million. Five cents from every US bottle funds water, sanitation, and hygiene programs through the Ethos Water Fund of the Starbucks Foundation.

Smartwater Sparkling

Smartwater Sparkling beat Giant Eagle Italian Sparkling, which he said burned his throat, while Smartwater was milder with no sodium. In round 3 it fell to Ethos.

About Smartwater Sparkling

The lightly carbonated version of Coca-Cola's smartwater: vapor-distilled water with added electrolytes plus carbonation, launched in the UK around 2017.

Sport (water)

In this five-water round, Ethos won and moved to round 3. The two sparkling waters went out along the way.

About Sport (water)

The record is unclear on this one: no standalone bottled-water brand called simply Sport could be identified. It may have been a sports-cap bottle of an existing brand.
