Winner: Icelandic Glacial.

What Jonathan decided

Icelandic Glacial = winner (round three); Niagara = 2nd; 365 Electrolyte = 3rd; Big Win = 4th; Volvic = 5th

365 Electrolyte

He chose the Electrolyte over its own house sibling in the head-to-head, then Icelandic Glacial ran the table in round three. Third place in a field like that is a solid showing.

About 365 Electrolyte

365 is the Whole Foods private label. This one is reverse-osmosis purified, ionized to pH 9.5 or higher, and enhanced with potassium bicarbonate and magnesium sulfate. The bottles are 100% recycled plastic.

Big Win Water

Icelandic Glacial won round three, Niagara took second, and Big Win landed fourth, ahead of only Volvic. Not the biggest win for Big Win.

About Big Win Water

Big Win is a budget purified-water brand often found at Rite Aid and other drugstores, using a seven-step purification with carbon filtration, reverse osmosis, and UV treatment. Neutral pH around 7.0, minimal minerals, affordable everyday hydration.

Icelandic Glacial

I called it the clear winner against Eternal, which I found a little dirty and plasticky. It then won rounds three and four before finishing third in round five behind Starkey and Summit Springs. In #8996 it was judged on bottle design only, and I never tasted it there.

About Icelandic Glacial

Icelandic Glacial comes from the Olfus Spring in Hlidarendi, Iceland, formed over 4,500 years ago and shielded by lava rock. Founded in 2004 by Jon Olafsson, it is bottled at a geothermally powered facility and was the world's first CarbonNeutral-certified bottled water. Naturally alkaline at pH 8.4, it won Best Water of 2007 from BevNET. Anheuser-Busch InBev took a 20% stake in 2007 and became its exclusive US distributor.

Niagara

Niagara beat Culligan in #3899 and moved on. Then in #3925 it finished second behind Icelandic Glacial in a five-water field. A win and a silver.

About Niagara

Niagara Bottling of Diamond Bar, California is the largest family-owned bottled water company in the US and the leading private-label producer. Founded in 1963 by Andrew Peykoff Sr. with 5-gallon home delivery, it moved into single-serve private label in the early 1990s. It bottles for Kirkland, Kroger, 7-Eleven, and many others, plus its own Niagara brand purified water.

Volvic

It beat Acqua Panna by a tiny margin on taste, even though the Acqua Panna had the fancier bottle. Later it finished fifth in a five-way. Such is tournament life.

About Volvic

Volvic is French natural mineral water from the Chaine des Puys in the Auvergne volcanoes, filtered about five years through six layers of volcanic rock. Owned by Danone since 1993, neutral pH 7, low minerals, B Corp certified and carbon neutral since 2020, and US bottles have been 100 percent recycled PET since 2021.
