What Jonathan decided
1907 Water wins ("1907 is going to be moving on to the next round"); Waiakea eliminated: "you can really taste the volcano," which he dislikes
1907
He picked 1907 over Waiakea because "you can really taste the volcano" in the Waiakea, and that was not a compliment. In the next round Starkey edged it out, but second place in that crowd is nothing to be ashamed of.
About 1907
1907 New Zealand Artesian Water is named for 1907, the year commercial bottling began in Paeroa, New Zealand. It comes from about 680 feet underground with a naturally high pH near 8.0, and it is bottled in 100% recycled plastic.
Waiakea (Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water)
1907 moved on. Waiakea went out because, in his words, "you can really taste the volcano," and he did not like that.
About Waiakea (Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water)
Waiakea is naturally alkaline volcanic water from the Keaau aquifer at the base of Mauna Loa on the Big Island of Hawaii, filtered through about 14,000 feet of porous volcanic rock, pH around 8.8. Founded in 2012 by Ryan Emmons, then a college freshman. It was the first US premium water brand in 100 percent recycled bottles, is carbon neutral, and donates 650 liters of clean water per liter sold through PumpAid. It had a 2024 recall of some 1-liter bottles over floating particles.
